Kenya’s electoral commission has called for stronger cooperation among public institutions as preparations for the August 2027 General Election gather pace.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon said the commission cannot manage the election alone, although it remains an independent body. He spoke during a national election security forum attended by officials from the Judiciary, National Police Service, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Ethekon said the IEBC would protect its independence while working with other agencies to support a peaceful, fair and credible election. He also warned that claims made without evidence could weaken public trust in the electoral process.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said security officers would cooperate with other institutions to maintain peace before, during and after the vote. He said police operations would be guided by neutrality, accountability and respect for the law.
